The Arlington Eats summer lunch program ended in mid-August, just as our slicing tomatoes were starting to ripen. So we've been picking them, and our cherry tomatoes, and dropping them off at the Arlington Council on Aging offices at the Arlington Senior Center.
Here's our second delivery:
These will get distributed in a variety of ways. The Council on Aging has a social worker that makes home visits, and she will take some tomatoes with her. The Council also does a food distribution at Drake Village in Arlington Heights. And in the lobby of the Senior Center is a table of food offered by Food Link, where seniors attending various classes (disco music was thumping when we dropped these off!) can pick up some on the way home.
Senior-citizen malnutrition is something our town is focusing on. We're happy to be able to provide our tasty, healthy tomatoes to the cause.
